Another Bump in the Road

Jun 4th, 2010 | By Roxann | Category: This and That

For those of you that didn’t catch on from my “About Me” section.  My husband is in the Army. I know this seems like it has nothing to do with writing, and in a way it doesn’t (we won’t go into how it has a lot to do with MY writing… that’s another story for another day.) However, my husband’s job does have something to do with this blog (at least right now).

two guys moving a house

For the last couple months, we have been talking about moving on post.  We feel the apartment we are in currently, though not too shabby for a first home to two newly weds, is not a good or very safe place for the pip-squeek.  We finally decided to do it and the hubs went in for an appointment with housing today.  We are up for the next offer.  As soon as they have an open downstairs unit open, we get a call telling us when we move in.

Now I’m sure you’re saying “I thought this had something to do with Two and a Half Writers” well here’s where that comes in.  We have no way at all to know when the next opening will be, for all we know we could get a call Monday saying we can move in Friday. This leaves me to make sure everything is in order before the unknown date arrives.  I have to clean, pack, and blah blah blah blah blah.  Which also means I’m going to be busy as hell for the next little while, and may not get a chance to post (I know I told you just yesterday that I’d still be posting every other day.  I think you will live though ;) .)  Once we get our new place I don’t know how long it will be, before our internet services are transferred over to our new home.

During all this moving madness I’m going to try to think of some ideas and techniques to share with all of you. (When I get a chance to think about something other than what I need to get done for the m move.)  Hopefully when I return I’ll have plenty of new stuff to offer.

One last thing before I hit the publish button and return to the chaos that is cleaning my house.  If you have any suggestions at all, for posts that you would like to see, send them in.  We’d be more than happy to do what we can to help you out on your journey.

I know I said this yesterday, but you guys really are awesome!  Mom and I both greatly appreciate your understand while everything has been going crazy on our end of things.

  1. Moving with little kids: I’ve been there, done that. Best of luck to you! Consider options for which the readers provide the bulk of the content, such as “What’s the best rejection letter you’ve ever received?” or “What’s your dream for your writing career?” You can also have a contest for guest bloggers, then save up the best posts to put up the week you’re moving.

  2. Roxann,

Thanks for this moving post. ;-)

Hang in there and get as much of the premoving stuff done that you can. My Dad was in the Air Force so I ended up being kind of a moving master!

  4. I don’t ever want to move again. Well, not unless I’ve got enough cash to pay someone ELSE to pack everything up and move it all in. Even then, I don’t know. It’s a hassle. I hope you get the call soon so you can get the move over with and get your life back to a comfortable routine.

  5. Kate:

Thank you for the great Ideas. I will have to keep those in mind. Unfortunately there isn’t any time for me to run any kind of contest. We got our call today and if we except the offer we got, we’ll be moving before the week is over. it’s all going so fast, my head is spinning and there is still so much to do. (However we are coming up on a vacation soon, hummm maybe I could do it then?)

    George:

You are very welcome haha. (I didn’t want ya’ll to think you’d been abandoned here.)
Thankfully my husband is arranging for the army to move us, (since we never used our move when we got here) they’ll pack move and unpack everything for us. I’ll just have to put it all away. But as I just told Kate, that will all be happening before this week is over. So it’s a little stressful. Another great thing is that we are only moving about 30 minutes away.
Eventually I’m sure I’ll become a moving master too ;) there’s talk of sticking it out until retirement.

(By the way WOOHOO Air Force! I grew up around airman…. I’m blue all the way. How I ended up married to the Army, I still don’t quite understand lol.)

  6. Vicki:
I’m lucky enough to have the army paying for our move AND they will pack, move and unpack our stuff too. I will just be left to put everything away.

We got our offer yesterday and will be going to see the place they want to give us, in the next day or so. If we take it, we’ll be moved in before the end of the week!
