Get to know Roxann
Hello! My name is Roxann Conger & I’m the daughter. That puts me up for the 2 part of 2 1/2 Writers. (If Mom’s 1, and Alexis is the Half, I guess that leaves me with 2.)
The Spark that Started the Fire
I’ve loved writing for as long as I can remember. I’ve written in many forms for years, but it wasn’t until I had a poem published in an anthology at the age of 16 that I considered writing as a career. Unfortunately, I knew being an author wasn’t a very stable career on which to raise a family. I decided to take the route of journalism instead.
I began my journalism studies while still in high school, serving on the staff of our high school newspaper as writer, reporter, and photographer. As my studies progressed, I took on the responsibilities of photo and columns editor, in addition to writing and reporting. I graduated with acceptance into journalism school and offers of scholarships, but I put those offers on hold for a year.
Bumps in the Road
After graduation, I moved to Georgia and accepted a position as staff writer/editor/coffee-go-getter for Virtually Yours, LLC. Later that year, I married and moved to New York, taking my staff writer/editor responsibilities for Virtually Yours with me. Life being what it is, my career plans were momentarily derailed with the unexpected addition of children.
Here I am today, just two short years later, with a beautiful new daughter and a husband just home from deployment, ready to try again! This time, I’m going straight for my life long dream – writing and publishing a book. I realize I don’t want my daughter to think I was too busy being Mommy to follow my dreams. I want her to see that you can follow your dreams, even if things don’t go quite as planned.
Currently, I have multiple works of fiction in progress. Eventually, I hope to expand one of my manuscripts into a series for teens.
