What do you get when you take a former Author’s Assistant-turned Freelance Writer, throw in her talented aspiring writer daughter, a beautiful new grand baby, and hours of long distance phone calls about writing and getting published?

You get two very passionate writers, a sometimes cranky baby, and the potential for a lot of great blog content! (Not to mention perpetually dead cell phone batteries.)

And so, what started out as a few “Hey Mom, can I pick your brain?” phone calls grew. It took on a life of its own, becoming our brainchild – Two and a Half Writers, a mother/daughter blog of all things writing and publishing.

Who We Are

Sandi (Mom) is currently working on a book about navigating the sometimes intimidating business of writing for a living. She’s a freelance writer & has been working on the fringes of the publishing industry for years. She talks about non-fiction writing from a chicken shit’s perspective on her blog The Blue Inkwell. Roxann (Daughter) is a new fiction writer. She’s struggling to learn the ropes of the publishing industry while balancing life as an Army wife and new mom. Roxann was first published at 16, in an anthology. For her, sometimes the information out there on writing just doesn’t apply. While not a teen writer, she still lacks some of the life experience assumed when advice is offered to adult writers. Alexis (the Half in Two and a Half Writers) makes occasional appearances – usually in the form of squeaks, thumps, and a few Da-da-da’s during conversations between Mom & Grandma. But don’t be surprised if she occasionally shows up here on Two and a Half Writers to offer her opinion on things. We’re still in negotiations about her bio page (She wants center stage on her own blog. We think the title Princess Fancy Face is going to her head.)

Who is Two and a Half Writers for?

Through all our late night and mid-baby nap phone calls, an idea started to brew. Why not share this journey with other new hopeful writers? There’s a great deal of information out there for new writers, but sometimes it’s hard for new, young writers to pick through and find what applies to them.

Two and a Half Writers is for all the Roxanns of the world. New, young fiction writers struggling to find their way in the publishing world. We seek to answer the “how do I’s” and the “what should I’s” that are so common to young writers of any genre. We want to share what we already know and what we learn along the way. While our focus is primarily writing fiction novels, there’s always room for other genres at the table.
